...using the Alexander Technique

Alan Bolton  M.AmSAT
Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique.

Working with Alan has been a Godsend.  He has taught me so much in a very short amount of time. Now after just two months of being a student of Alan’s I feel so subtly energized just to hold my head up when I walk ... Alan is teaching me to learn how to loosen my body and mind to move and think in new ways that I have not experienced before.

What goes wrong and where are we now ?
Balance as we 'feel' it.....as it 'is'.
The advantage of using your head.
Co-ordination - the integration of body and mind.
The way you think about yourself affects the way you heal.
Body 'language',and the role that each part plays.
Using yourself in concert and getting more air.
Spreading the load, releasing tension, and grounding pain.
The psycho/physical benefits of being in harmony with oneself and the life force present in nature.
Procedures that relieve pain and spasm.
Avoiding pain from sport, exercise, work and home.
The dangers of 'innocent' movement - leaning forward, bending, twisting, turning, driving, up and down steps, falling, speaking, sleeping, lifting, working at a bench.
Staying on track - overcoming the fears and inconvenience of change.

The above lessons address most chronic conditions and in no way counteract the beneficial
effects of surgery, chiropractic, Yoga, Pilates, Acupuncture, or physical therapy of any kind.

Hey Alan, Life's good for me. Everyday gets better! I've canceled my surgery. I have not taken any form of medication for over a week and have slept good for days. Pain is becoming far less intense and far less often. Everyday literally feels better than the day before. Because it's so obvious when I'm out of balance in certain parts of my body (hips/back) because of the pain message, it's easier to allow myself to re-align. The biggest trouble I'm currently having is my habit of how I take a bite of food. Yup! That's the one giving me obstacles now! It's testing my awareness for if I'm not correctly balanced my jaw cracks on the left side when i go to take my bite. It feels so good to become more aware though and my entire life is improving as a result. People are noticing that I'm moving with ease but are having trouble understanding the change. I think time will show more as many seem to be waiting for things to crash again, but I haven't felt this good in years nor have I been off medication for this long and that's the part people aren't recognizing as already changed, as it's not surface to the eye.
